Nominally founded in 2024, but conceived much earlier, “Kåre Jensen - Zoo & Landscape Design” is owned and run by Kåre Thomas Jensen. An avid zoo-enthusiast since the 1990’es, Kåre grew up in Copenhagen visiting the local zoo, and has continued to visit zoos around the planet for inspiration. To this date he has visited 300 zoological institutions in 26 different countries spanning five continents.
Turning passion into profession, Kåre completed his four-year degree in zookeeping through a long-term traineeship in Odense ZOO, and has later worked at various zoological institutions, with all types of different species, gathering professional knowledge and invaluable contacts in the zoo and conservation field. Having worked hands-on with animals for eight years, the true knack and interest for zoo design was to be developed through a university degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Copenhagen.
His unique combinations of zookeeping and landscape design experience, coupled with his extensive library of references from more that 20 years of visiting zoological institutions, gives him extensive insights into the challenges and possibilities of designing zoos and aquariums. The unique and indexed photo library that has been developed gives access to an almost-endless supply of inspiration right at your fingertips.
Our logo represents nature's very own original landscape architect: The beaver. Just like the beaver, we strive to engineer environments that improve biodiversity and animal welfare, using nature's own materials and mechanisms to create visually stunning landscapes with purpose. The story of the beaver as an icon for rewilding shows nature's resilience and the possibilities for giving space back to wildlife.
