Great apes in the high north

With the challenges of keeping great apes in zoos becoming more urgent in terms of securing good welfare, Dyreparken Kristiansand decided to upgrade their housing for the only troop of chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) in Norway. We assisted in early concept sketching sessions, reviewing options for utilising existing buildings vs. constructing new ones. We also provided consulting on the zoo management of chimpanzees, visitor experiences in great ape houses and horticultural consulting on the desire to combine animals with live plant growth. 

The project is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in 2026.
