Making the most of animal welfare
Simulating a lowland mountain forest on the Chinese side of the Himalayas, the former wild dog enclosure of Aalborg Zoo was converted into themed experience of 900 m2.
Red pandas (Ailurus fulgens) roam in the trees above the pathway while japanese cranes (Grus japonensis) forage along the edge of a small pond. Visitors observe the animals from several different types of viewing points at different levels, contributing to a diverse and varied experience. The landscape is is lush and spectacular in all seasons, with sturdy evergreens, vibrant spring blossom and dazzling autumn colours.
The exhibit can be divided into three parts depending on the husbandry situation, or remain combined to one enclosure.
