The return of the southern pudu (Pudu puda) to Odense ZOO meant the redevelopment of the existing enclosure for guinea pigs. In the name of cost-reduction and sustainability, fences and pathways were re-used with a new landscape and indoor housing added.
In collaboration with horticultural and zoological staff, we assisted in creating naturalistic landscape with lush and exotic plantings inspired by the Valdivian temperate forests of Chile, using several species native to the region. These plantings are designed as a mix of dense and open areas to encourage the deer to forage where visitors can see them, but give them the safety to retreat at any time, a vital part of their welfare in zoos.
