Dreaming of rhinos
Adding the remarkable Indian rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) in a naturalistic and immersive habitat has long been a dream at Odense ZOO. This project aimed to thoroughly research and describe the facilities and features needed to house these impressive animals in a 4000 m² area of the zoo, as well as expansion of the current Tiger Forest enclosure for amur tigers (Panthera tigris altaica). The end result was an extensive catalogue of landscape analysis, husbandry guidelines and parameters, potential barriers and mixed species options as well as an initial design proposal.
"Wonderful Asia" was done as a bachelor's project within the University of Copenhagen in collaboration with Odense ZOO and support from Monika Fiby.
The project is currently set to go ahead as an architectural competition based on the initial "Wonderful Asia" prospect project.
